Child Protection code of conduct for parents and carers
- Kendal School of Gymnastics operates an open viewing policy and family are encouraged to watch the training sessions, however we would like to ask that they remain at the seating area by the main entrance, and do not shout at the gymnasts as this can be dangerous and disruptive.
- We also feel strongly that there should be regular communication between parents or carers, coaches and gymnasts: whether this is to tell us if a child is ill or unable to attend sessions, or to share any concerns or complaints about any aspect of the club, or simply to enquire as to a child's progress and what they can do to develop further.
- We encourage family to become more involved in the Club through judging or coaching courses. If you would like more details, pass your name onto any of the coaching staff or committee.
- Parents and carers play an important role in promoting a child’s happiness and success in gymnastics. Positive encouragement from you will contribute to them having a sense of personal achievement, higher personal esteem and improved skill levels.
- Find out what your child wants from sport, and then help them to set realistic targets to achieve this. This may mean controlling your own aspirations, and avoiding forcing your own desires and aims on your child. It is important to:
- Encourage, but not force, your child to be active
- Encourage a healthy lifestyle
- Promote or teach fair play
- Watch them training or in competitions
- Everyone at the club is a volunteer, and we can only carry on if people are prepared to help out. Your child will attach a greater value to the club if they see you are prepared to get involved as coach, judge or volunteer, but be realistic about how you can help.
- Contribute to a happy gym by watching for any inappropriate behaviour or comments, but use the proper channels for reporting this. Please don’t take part in destructive gossip.
- Help your child’s coach to help your child:
- Give the coach help when asked, and show both coach and child appreciation for a job well done
- Make sure your child has suitable clothing or equipment
- Communicate any concerns or relevant information to the coach in charge of the session
